The Role
We are seeking a Systems Training and Payroll Officer who will be responsible for strategically designing and delivering online and in-person content and providing workshops relating to all payroll matters. The scope includes the current SCS payroll system PHRIS (Payroll Human Resources Information System), developing a training portfolio focused on Self Service, Manager Self Service, CTS, BTR and payroll principles and guidelines.
The function is dually responsible as a subject matter expert in payroll, the role ensures prompt and accurate processing of salaries within a payroll team that delivers high-quality fortnightly payroll for Sydney Catholic Schools 10,000+ employees. The training component administers needs assessments, gauges skills shortages, and addresses these through focused training programs.

As the Systems Training and Payroll Officer you will be responsible for:
- Identifying trends and skills deficiencies by analysing all payroll data, including PHRIS master data, leave compliance and BTR reports.
- Interpreting these trends, looking for opportunities to improve the skill set of people leaders and P&C directorate or review of business or system processes.
- Reviewing and reporting on monthly Service Now queries for payroll. Analysing data looking for trends and providing recommended actions as an outcome.
- Monthly coordination of the team to focus on reporting under and overpayment registers and analysing trends and skills deficits.
- Reporting on legislative requirements such as long service leave, casual employment and status.
- Responsible for identifying technology that enables the design and delivery of engaging workshops/training for all People Leaders, including Principals, Managers and their delegates for Payroll related areas, such as PHRIS Self Service and Manager Self Service and CTS.
- Leading the development and review of a training portfolio and delivery methods in consultation with the Payroll Supervisor and P&C Operations Manager.
- Managing the delivery of a yearly training calendar with up to date content.
- Partnering with the P&C Projects team to explore various training delivery channels, including in-person, online zoom and other enterprise systems.
- Reviewing and redesigning all payroll-related documentation, incorporating business procedures, ensuring compliance to the relevant enterprise agreement and relevant legislation.
- Utilising various platforms such as Google Suite, SCS Live Tiles and ServiceOne to ensure a user-friendly “how-to process” is available for internal and external stakeholders.
- Attending the PHRIS Payroll Diocese Working Group (PDWG) meetings to manage change communication to the broader P&C Directorate, focusing on P&C Operations.
- Working with the Payroll Supervisor on month-end reporting.
- Where required in the absence of the Payroll Supervisor, act as a proxy to authorise Out of Cycle pays (Quickpays), SCS and John Berne fortnightly net pays and deduction files.
- Assisting with the fortnightly payroll to ensure accuracy and adhere to the pay cycle deadlines: review system generated Payee messages, update PHRIS and/or contact
- Manager/Principal or employee as required; manage exception reporting, such as large payment and pay variance reports integral to pay finalisation sign off fortnightly.
- Assisting with managing portability of long service leave and personal carers leave as required by relevant enterprise agreements.
