The Role

We are seeking a People and Culture Coordinator to be the first point of contact for Sydney Catholic Schools staff, responding to and processing a range of routine and systematic enquiries and service requests about payroll, recruitment, employment relations, workplace health and safety as well as employee wellbeing. Joining a team of eleven other coordinators, you will be the face and voice of the People & Culture directorate for the organisation.

As the People and Culture Coordinator you will be responsible for:

  • Triaging, responding to and processing a range of human resources-related enquiries and service requests from teachers, school support staff, and staff located in the Central Office and Catholic Education Networks via email, written correspondence or phone. 
  • Processing and peer-reviewing various payroll related transactions, including updates to banking, tax and super, fringe tax benefits, cashing out of leave entitlements, employee timesheets, various deductions and allowance processing and raising invoices.
  • Preparing, peer reviewing and processing various administrative transactions, including teacher registrations and pay rate classification, onboarding of employees, compliance related work, reclassifying employee pay rates based on qualification and experience, employee movements and absences requests.
  • Preparing various letters, including temporary contracts, higher duties letters, variation and extension letters, stand down letters and probation letters. 
  • Proactively resolve ‘customer/client’ enquiries and/or complaints in a prompt, professional and caring manner, ensuring first call resolution; escalate and refer relevant questions to other departments or teams within P&C as required.  
  • Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring and review of employee ‘self-service’ guides, FAQs and other resources, and P&C policies and procedures.  

The Person

To be successful in this position, you must possess:

  • Undergraduate degree or tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Human Resources Management or other relevant fields or relevant industry experience of at least two years as a payroll administration (or similar role).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications.  
  • Strong knowledge of  Human Resources Information Systems (preferably Oracle (Peoplesoft)). 
  • Prior experience in a service-oriented, professional team.  
  • Prior experience in the education industry (preferably primary/secondary).  
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and effectively as part of a team.  
  • High degree of energy, resilience and an exceptional work ethic. 
  • Willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.
